Marc Todd

Marc Todd was born and raised in the South West of England, before leaving to study fine art in London.

After graduating, and instead of taking up a career as a painter, he remained in London and worked in advertising and brand communications as an Art Director for globally known agencies including Saatchi and Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather and J Walter Thompson.

In 2016 he returned to the South West, setting up home, and his studio in the beautiful and artistically inspiring city of Bath.

He defines his style as Contemporary Impressionism, working with colour and light, textures and marks to create dynamic and engaging images that are truly distinctive.

This treatment of paint is used to create the vibrant tree-scapes and cityscapes for which he is now gaining an international reputation.

Despite appearing to be very different subject matters, Marc finds great synergy between the two.

“When you look really closely a tree scape, in reality everything is moving. Leaves rustle, grass sways, birds fly past, bees buzz – in this way, I see it in similar terms to the busiest of cities. I use the same techniques across both subjects – marks and strokes that are designed to communicate this sense of constant movement in the environment”

His signature style is a vivacious use of colour and subtle application of texture. Marc has developed a range of modern techniques to apply the paint with unique instruments, such as sponges, plywood and even lego. With brushes rarely used, his stunning originals capture the fast pace of city life and the natural movement of the forest.

To date, Marc has sold paintings all over the world, with particularly strong sales in the UK, the USA and the Far East.
